What is a CFO? |
A Chief Financial Officer is the person primarily responsible for managing the financial risks of the business. This person is typically responsible for financial planning and record keeping, as well as financial reporting to higher management. The CFO needs to gather, report, analyze and understand key business drivers. With loads of data coming from multiple sources or even QuickBooks, the financial issues can get blurred. The CFO must integrate and simplify information gathering, analysis and delivery systems into something that makes sense to the business owner or management team. Financial success depends on implementation of a rock-solid strategy. Strategy and finance are integrally connected disciplines. Why would you be interested in a CFO? You need to tune up your business plan to present to a bank or other funding source. You know that your margins on your product or service should be better but you're not seeing the results you expect. You want to know what all the real financial information means as it reaches across all areas of your company. You need to develop and implement finance, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures. You want to establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards. You would want someone to interact with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations. You need to have an analysis of cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders, as well as analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential weak areas.
